Easy Traditional Gingerbread Recipe

Versatile and easy to create, gingerbread biscuit dough can be used for creating traditional gingerbread men, stars, christmas trees and a variety of festive shapes. The biscuits can be easily decorated with a simple royal icing, dipped in chocolate or used to decorate a large cake.

Ingredients: 225g plain flour, 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 1/2tsp ginger, 50g butter, 100g soft brown sugar, 100g golden syrup 

Prep: 50 minutes

Cook: 10 - 15 minutes

Makes: approx 20 biscuits 

Melt the butter, sugar and golden syrup over a gentle heat then remove from the heat and stir in the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and ginger. When combined to resemble a dough mixture, wrap in beeswax or clingfilm and chill for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Roll the dough out on a floured surface until approx 0.5cm thick and cut using a biscuit cutter or knife. Place the biscuit shapes into a lined baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Leave to cool fully before decorating.
