foolproof pancake Recipes

Make sure your pancakes are a flipping success this Pancake Day with our foolproof pancake recipes. Choose from Fluffy American Pancakes or traditional Simple French Crepes. 

Fluffy American Pancakes

Ingredients: 200g self raising flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1tbsp caster sugar, 3 eggs, 30g butter, 180ml semi skimmed milk

Prep: 20 minutes

Cook: 30 minutes

Serves:

Mix the flour, baking powder, caster sugar in a bowl and create a well. Melt the butter and pour into the dry ingredients with eggs and milk. Whisk well until there are no lumps in the mixture. 

Preheat your pan with a light coating of vegetable oil, when heated spoon 1/2 cup of mixture into the pan. After 2 minutes bubbles will start to form, flip and cook for a further 2 minutes or until golden brown.

Simple French Crepes 

Ingredients: 175g plain flour, 3 eggs, 450ml semi skimmed milk

Prep: 5 minutes (1 hour resting)

Cook: 20 minutes

Serves:

Sift the flour into a bowl, add the eggs and milk and whisk well until the mixture is smooth and no lumps appear. Leave the batter to rest for 1 hour.

Preheat your pan with a light coating of vegetable oil, when heated spoon approximately 1/2 cup of mixture into the pan so that it just covers the surface. Swirl the mixture around the pan and pour any excess back into the bowl. When the edges of the pancake start to shrink away from the sides of the pan gently shake to see if it is ready to flip. Flip and cook for a further few minutes.
