Moreish Mocha Buttercream

A sophisticated topping for cakes, cupcakes, and traybakes this classic mocha buttercream is easy to make and tastes delicious with the grown-up flavours of chocolate and coffee. This moreish mocha buttercream can be kept refrigerated for up to a week.

Moreish Mocha Buttercream Recipe


40g cocoa power, 80ml strong coffee cooled, 350g icing sugar, 70g butter, 1tsp vanilla extract


  1. Mix together the cocoa powder and coffee until combined and set aside. Whisk the butter until light and fluffy then add the icing sugar and vanilla extract.
  2. Stir through the mocha mixture until fully combined. For a thicker mixture allow to set in the fridge before using and for a thinner mixture add a splash of milk or water until you reach the right consistency.
