Simple Homemade Tomato Passata

Suitable for freezing, this simple homemade tomato passata recipe is ideal for batch storing then adding to meatloaf, lasagne, pasta dishes or pizzas. 

Homemade Tomato Passata Recipe


1kg ripe tomatoes quartered, 6 garlic cloves chopped, 1tsp caster sugar


  1. Cook the tomatoes and garlic with a drizzle of olive oil in a large pan over a medium heat for 10-12 minutes until the tomatoes have softened and collapsed. 
  2. Add a generous amount of black pepper and italian seasoning along with the sugar then return to the heat for a further 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool before mixing with a hand blender until smooth.
  3. You can freeze the passata for up to 3 months.
